MBSR MORNING FALL 2018 with Pamela Maguire ~ Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (for English language speakers)

THE MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM (MBSR).

The MBSR program was designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn towards the end of the 1970’s.  It is an intensive mindfulness program supported by a vast body of world-class scientific studies.   The MBSR taught in Semplicemente Spazio adheres to the 8-week MBSR program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and is taught by CFM qualified teachers.

The MBSR program was initially designed to treat chronic pain in the hospital setting but due the efficacy recorded, it has been expanded to treat conditions which are more psychosomatic (e.g., psoriasis, irritable bowel syndrome) and psychological (e.g., depression, anxiety, insomnia, impulsiveness) in origin.  It works stand-alone but has also shown excellent results when combined with medical and/or psychological therapies already in course, resulting in increased effectiveness of the medical and/or psychological treatment.

More in general, however, the intensive practice of mindfulness as presented in the MBSR program has been scientifically proven to help improve concentration, to manage emotions more effectively, increase relaxation, self-esteem and creativity.   These all have a positive effect on our mind, body and on our interpersonal relationships… not only when things are going our way but also when we are faced with difficult challenges.

Some say it is an experience that can change your life, and this could be true.  What is certain is that during this intense program, what changes is us. This is because meditation gives us the courage to be ourselves, to improve our relationships with others, and it helps us to see clearly that whatever happens in our lives, we can face these challenges free from unhelpful thoughts.

The program will then be articulated into 8 lessons on Thursday morning (from 10.00 till 12.30 a.m.) and a day of full-immersion (Friday), with the following calendar:

  • 11th, 18th, 25thOctober 2018
  • 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29thNovember 2018
  • 6th December 2018
  • Full-Immersion: November 16th2018 (Friday), from 9.30a.m. till 16.30 p.m.

PAMELA MAGURE is a Mindfulness and MBSR teacher trained by the Center for Mindfulness, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.  Originally from Ireland she has lived and worked in Italy for many years and travelled extensively both for business and pleasure.  She holds a Degree in Business Administration, an MBA, a Degree in Psychology and Masters in Health Psychology.  She is also a Certified Business Coach.

She matured her passion for helping people manage stress over her twenty years of experience as a senior manager in hectic sectors for top tier national and multinational companies.  She offers a special blend of understanding and experience of mindfulness with the technical expertise of business, psychology and business coaching.  She teaches MBSR programs in companies.
